Project Overview

The Medieval Dragon playground at South Bowie Community Center in Bowie, MD transforms everyday outdoor play into a storybook adventure. Designed for children ages 5–12, this one-of-a-kind space invites kids to enter a castle world where dragons are real, towers are climbable, and every corner holds something new to discover.

Meet the Dragon

At the center of this playground stands a Custom-Built Dragon Playstructure by Landscape Structures, combining their PlayBooster® and Evos® systems into a massive, interactive creature. Children can explore the dragon from head to tail. A long red slide forms the dragon’s tongue, delivering a thrilling rush while building balance, coordination, and sensory development. Climbing through the dragon’s body is equally engaging. O-Zone® Climbers and Noodle Pod® Steps challenge kids to move, grip, and navigate with purpose. Each element builds upper body strength, coordination, and confidence.

Details That Bring the Fantasy to Life

This playground goes well beyond standard play equipment. Metal scales, concrete feet, and wing-shaped climbing walls create a fully immersive environment. In other words, kids don’t just play near the dragon — they interact with every inch of it. The adventure extends beyond the dragon itself. Dragon eggs, a castle playstructure, fortress towers, and a SpyroSlide™ give children even more room to explore, imagine, and connect with each other. Together, these features encourage cooperative storytelling and active social play in equal measure. The dragon’s domain is just as thoughtfully designed from the ground up. Surface America installed poured-in-place rubber surfacing throughout, creating a cushioned, accessible foundation that keeps the adventure going safely for every child.
