Project Overview

Hal and Berni Hanson Regional Park in Aldie, Virginia features one of the region’s most expansive and inclusive playgrounds, completed in October 2022. The destination play space is anchored by multiple net climbing stations, each designed as a standalone adventure and enhanced with nature-inspired rock climbers, slides, and swings that provide endless opportunities for exploration. At the heart of the playground, a hillside integrates roller slides, climbing challenges, and over-under bars for a mix of fitness and sensory play, while the Global Motion® spinner at the hilltop offers an accessible group play experience for children of all abilities. Accessibility and safety were prioritized through extensive ramping and the installation of Surface America’s PlayBound™ Poured-in-Place Safety Surfacing and PlayBound™ Turf Surface, a non-infill turf system that combines durability with a natural aesthetic. Together, these features create a universally accessible environment where children and families can gather, play, and enjoy a full day of recreation.
