Project Overview
The Guy Mason Recreation Center playground in Washington, D.C. is a one-of-a-kind play destination tucked amongst the trees. Designed for children ages 5 to 12, it delivers a futuristic, adventure-filled experience. Sparks at Play installed this custom playground in July 2015 using Landscape Structures Inc. equipment. Above all, it keeps inclusivity and developmental play at the forefront. As a result, it stands as one of the most dynamic community playgrounds in the Washington, D.C. area.
A Netplex® Centerpiece Built for Big Adventure
The bold 14-post Netplex® play structure anchors the Guy Mason Recreation Center playground. It features two concentric rings of seven posts and a custom shade roof. Additionally, its interconnected web of climbing ropes and nets builds upper body strength, agility, balance, and coordination. The open net design also accommodates large groups, making it a natural hub for cooperative play. Furthermore, connected PlayBooster® components take the fun even further. The LolliLadder™ w/E-Pods challenges kids to swing from rung to rung on its curved overhead design. Meanwhile, the Curva® Spinner delivers vestibular stimulation and cause-and-effect fun for one child or many. An inclusive belt swing also ensures children of all abilities can join in together.
A Nest-Like Tower, Tunnel Slide & Hillside Rollerslide
Beyond the Netplex, a custom nest-like tower offers even more adventure. It includes various net climbers and a stainless steel tunnel slide. Together, these elements spark imaginative play and build physical confidence. However, the crowd favorite is the Rollerslide. It sits built directly into the natural hillside, so the landscape itself becomes part of the play. The result is a smooth, tactile, sensory sliding experience. Moreover, children of all abilities enjoy it side by side. This perfectly reflects the inclusive play design philosophy that defines the entire Guy Mason Recreation Center playground.
